Apparently having twin babies turns you into a walking FAQ… I wish someone had warned us? 😆
Most people are naturally curious about babies. The moment you announce you’re having a baby, everyone becomes deeply invested in your personal life. They want to know everything — names, gender, sleep habits, equivalent fruit size etc.
But as soon as you mention you’re having twins, the curiosity suddenly multiplies.
Then once your twin babies are born and you bravely venture into the world (with a stroller the size of a compact car) the questions roll in ever faster. You need to be prepared.
As a twin parent, brace yourself for these frequently asked questions
My fun answers included!
Are they twins?
No, they are triplets. I left the ugly one at home.
(This gets asked so often we actually made it into a shirt! See it here).
Are they identical?
Yes.
Oh they look so alike! How do you tell them apart?
Easy! They look different.
Actually yes, they look a bit different. Are you sure they’re identical?
Yes.
Were they natural?
Not quite, we brewed them in our garage during lockdown.
How do you know they’re identical?
They look alike. If they didn’t, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Do you sleep at all?
Oh yeah. Like a baby 😉 Why? Do I look tired?
Are they your first?
Yes, and second. And probably last.
Do twins run in your family?
At the moment, no. They mostly crawl.
Which is the “good” twin?
Depends on the hour. Sometimes neither.
Are you going to have more?
Ask me again after they’re potty trained… and are in college.
Double trouble, huh?
Double everything!
Some of them aren’t even questions. People will just make random comments in passing like:
You have your hands full!
You should see my laundry basket. And my heart.
Hubby must have strong swimmers!
Actually they do not increase the chance of having twins. Don’t give him all the credit 😂
Double the babies, double the questions
Truth is, most people are just curious and mean well. I don’t blame them, twins are a little magical (and chaotic). Sure, it gets repetitive answering the same questions over and over, but when I look at these two humans we somehow brought into the world at the same time, I get it.
